Hey,
Like many sports parents in the GTA, my life revolves around the gym. It started three years ago when my son, a latecomer to basketball, was invited to try out for a rep team. He made it, and from that moment, I was all in.
To help him catch up, I filmed every single game and created a YouTube channel. It was our private film room. We’d break down his dribbling, his shooting form, his positioning. The results were undeniable, his progress accelerated. Soon, other parents were using the videos to help their own kids. One dad even told me he fixed his son’s running mechanics by studying the footage. The players themselves started asking for the channel link after games. I knew I had stumbled onto a real need.
Video was great, but I wanted more. I wanted data. For a while, I tried tracking stats for my son’s entire team by re-watching my recordings. It took countless hours. Some said I was crazy, that stats didn’t matter for kids.
But I saw something different. I saw the “star players” run to the scorer’s table, desperate to know how many points they had. And I thought: why should only they care? Every player on that court deserves to see their effort quantified. Not for social media likes, but for personal growth. How can you know if you’re improving if you don’t measure it?
I realized the market was missing a tool for dedicated players and their families. Everything was either a complex app full of distractions or a team-based system that relied on an assistant coach.
There was nothing for the parent who wants to capture the stats of their own child’s journey. Nothing to create a physical record of their progress, to remember that night they hit a career-high in 3-pointers or that game-saving block.
That’s when the Player zHero notepad was born.
It’s a simple, screen-free tool designed to empower young athletes and the “crazy” parents like me who cheer them on. It’s a bridge between performance and progress, a way to make every game a lesson.
Our name says it all. Every great journey starts at zero. This notepad is the first step.
